5-Song Set Includes New Single, “Down”
North American Tour With BANNERS Kicks Off September 18 And Includes Sold-Out September 23 Show At Rough Trade In Brooklyn

Today, alt-rock trio The Man Who released its new EP, Bet On You, via Virgin Records. The five-song collection includes the explosive new single, “Down.” Download / stream Bet On You HERE. See below for track listing.

The EP’s title track was the first song the bandmates wrote and released as The Man Who. Lead vocalist David Walsh recalls, “The song really laid a solid foundation for writing the rest of the EP. When we wrote ‘Bet On You,’ we started with four chords on an acoustic guitar and the opening vocal melody. We replaced the guitar with a Mellotron over a hip hop beat and it drastically changed the feel, allowing us to explore more dramatic melodies and lyrics.”

The Toronto-based band will play its first U.S. shows this fall. The Man Who will join BANNERS on his North American tour, which kicks off next Wednesday, September 18, at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall. The run includes a sold-out show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn (September 23). Tickets are on sale now at See below for itinerary.

In the weeks leading up to the EP’s release, The Man Who released live performance videos for two of the tracks. View “Give Me Something” HERE and “Natural Villain” HERE.

Comprising David Walsh (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chad Walsh (bass/electric guitar, keyboards, background vocals) and Frank Goerz (drums), The Man Who takes its name from a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote, “The world makes way for the man who knows where he’s going.” Their new EP – produced mainly by Tawgs Salter (USS, Lights) and mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent (Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Chvrches) – showcases the hypnotic contrast at the heart of their music, an infinite tension between bright and dark, raw vulnerability and quiet mystique. That tension also manifests in their inventive sound design, an element that often finds the band fusing Chad’s intricate guitar work and Goerz’s powerful drumming with fuzzed-out bass and booming 808s.

Clash premiered the title track, “Bet On You,” praising the band’s “crisp songwriting with a blackened edge” while Hillydilly extolled the “singable hooks and perfect, grandiose tones” of “This High.” While most of the EP was recorded at Salter’s cabin studio near Niagara Falls, “Give Me Something” came together at the L.A. studio of production duo HEAVY (The Dirty Heads, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness), who co-wrote the track with The Man Who and produced alongside Salter. The EP includes newly re-produced versions of the band’s first two singles, “Bet On You” and “This High.”

The Man Who traces its roots back to 2015, when a tour took Toronto-based Chad Walsh to Newfoundland, where he re-connected with his cousin, David Walsh, who was also a musician. The two began a long-distance collaboration, experimenting with vintage synthesizers and throwback hip-hop drum loops. David eventually moved to Toronto, where the two cousins met up with drummer Frank Goerz, who rounds out the trio. Across all of their songs, The Man Who has already racked up more than 15 million global streams. The band has an average of 250,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
